CIP Trip to Red Cross Home

I accompanied my form class 2L, together with two 2P girls, to the compulsory CIP visit to the Red Cross Home for the Disabled after school today.

The girls being briefed by the staff before carrying out their activities for the residents

After being briefed by one of the staff, Ms Lo, about how they could go about interacting with the residents, the girls broke into small groups and explored the three different floors at the home. As the girls had no experience interacting with people with physical and intellectual disability, some found it a little hard to communicate with them initially. But all did well to overcome this barrier, and before long, everyone was contributing in their own little ways.

Story-telling

With minimal supervision, the students started interacting with the residents in various ways. Some students brought children’s storybooks to read to the residents. Another group went to all levels to sing songs to entertain them, and the girls from string orchestra put their talents to good use by performing beautiful orchestral pieces for all.

5 sang, 2 shy

Mini performance by the String girls of the class

Ooh, and the family dance certainly excites the residents! :P

Some volunteered to sweep the leaves on the floor too. Amanda waiting for leaves to fall?

I must say that I’m pretty impressed by the girls’ positive attitude towards this CIP trip. Although it was a compulsory trip, they had made it an enjoyable and productive one, bringing smiles to the residents of the home. You’ve been great, 2 Loyalty. I hope that you do look forward for the next CIP trip in April! :)

P.S. Chyi Fang, thank you and your mum, that she was able to come down to help out! ;)

Ad Hoc Biathlon!

Oh yea..it’s a last minute decision to join the NUS biathlon. So this coming Sunday, I’ll swim 1.5 km in the east coast waters and run 10 km of the park. I’ll treat it as part of my training for my Singapore Biathlon (on 1st March) as well. It’s gonna be a special Biathlon.. well, in a way! That’s all peeps. Isn’t this more interesting than the previous post?

ok, blog updated.

Wat Arun

Long time didn’t post! Well, been busy recently and hence the lack of posts. In fact, I’m not supposed to post now either. But just to fill this place up with fresh stuff, I’ll show some pics that I’ve taken at Wat Arun (also known as the Temple of Dawn) during my Thailand trip last year.

Wat Arun is a buddhist temple in Bangkok. The temple is located in Bangkok Yai district, on the west bank of Chao Praya River.

We climbed up to the higher part of Wat Arun. The stairs are real steep….. ><

View from highest possible standing point of Wat Arun

Another view, unobstructed

People say that Wat Arun looks much more beautiful at night. I couldn’t agree more. :D
