Totally Inspired!

Well, I went for a full-day counselling course at Teachers’ Network today. Can’t say that it was that interesting or constructive, although I’ve learnt some points here and there.

It was the book that I’ve borrowed from their library that made my day! The book is titled "Getting the Buggers to Add Up". Basically, it’s a teacher-oriented book that provides ideas on how to make Math lessons interesting and fun for students.

After a student of mine commented "Eh, Mr Lin, your math lesson very boring, that’s why we gotta talk to entertain ourselves mah!", I realised that there’s this need to improve my lessons such that my classes will truly enjoy them and acquire mathematical skills in a more enjoyable manner.

So now, armed with this book, I’m motivated to try out new stuff next year. And this entry will remind myself that I must carry out this thought. :)

Before and After

People who know me well will know how untidy I am, whether at work or at home. Usually, I would not tidy up my desk unless due to some forced circumstances. And it’s no difference this time.

So, we need to clear our staff room tables to allow contractors to install LAN points for every teacher.

Here is how my desk looked like for the past 2 months:

Here is how it looked like after I cleared my stuff:

I feel very satisfied. What an accomplishment! HAHA

Thank You, Friends. =)

Thanks Yaofang, Ruo Ning, and many more friends (including my SWEET PHS 3 Grace students) who gave me the support that I needed through this time of difficulty. Life would’ve been much worse without you people. :)

This colourful choco-chip cookie has been lying on my room table since 31st of August. I’ve still not eaten it yet, cos it looks really beautiful and has my name on it! LOL

So I’ve decided to take a picture of it, in order to keep the memories even after I eat it (sometime soon). This student has improved a lot  (20%!) in her 2nd common test. I hope I could continue to motivate and encourage my students to greater heights! :D

(by the way, how come all my students like to "yo" me one arh?hmm.. )

Classic Answer

One more for today. This definitely broke the monotony of marking assignments.

Well done. -.-””’

Little Stuff Like This

This is written at the back of one of my students’ homework assignment. Can read?? :P

The girls can be very mischievous and loud at times, but they’re very good-natured people at heart.

And little messages like this really do cheer my day up. =)

Teachers’ Day’s Gift

If not for some unforeseen crisis (I just can’t find any other word to describe), the recent Teachers’ Day would have been an eventful and memorable one.

On the last day of last month, SNGS celebrated Teachers’ Day in a rather fun way. We the teachers played sports games with the students. The catch? We can break all sorts of rules and the students could only feel helpless and do nothing. Haha, no wonder we won all 4 games (basketball, soccer, table-tennis and captain’s ball). I played the captain’s ball with the Sec 4s, and boy it was tiring! But it was fun and exciting.

Teaching in a girls’ school, it’s not unusual to receive lots of gifts from the girls, even though I’m just a new teacher there. There were a lot of hand made stuff (e.g. cookies, cards, etc) and some other presents like pencil case, cushion and so on. I’m not a person that feel extremely happy upon receiving gifts, but I was quite touched by some students who wrote nice little messages and sticked them to the gifts. One particular student made me felt rather encouraged after reading her card. I would be happy enough to receive such inexpensive cards with priceless words written in it.

I guess these nice gestures from my students will provide me with enough motivation to continue living my life meaningfully and to do my best to help them academically as well as in other areas that need improvement.

Thanks

Thanks to those who gave me encouragement and all the well-wishing. Shall not elaborate more, but I really appreciate your gestures, people.

Will continue blogging when I’m fine again. Meanwhile, remember, study real smart for your exams!!

Jiayou!!!
